FIRE HAZARD
Żagań Forest District is classified as the highest category of fire danger (class 1). Between years 2001 and 2010 479 fire instances were recorded on the total area of 37.04ha.
The greatest fire danger is between early spring and in summer months (high inasolation combined with desiccating winds). The largest fire on the area of Żagań Forest District took place in the August of 1992 (so called Czerna Fire 1992), half a year before the unit was set up and covered the area of 3058ha. An interesting fact is that it was "stopped" approximately 250 metres from then operating liquid fuel depot.
