Ecological sites are the Romains of ecosystems that deserve protection and are of great importance for maintenance of biological diversity, f. ex. mid-forest water ponds, swamps, mosses and sites of rare plant, animal and mushroom species.
On the area of Żagań Forest District one ecological land exists - "Meadows by the River Olsza" on the areas of Podlaski and Kowalice sub-districts.
The aim of its foundation was preserving the open character of meadows within the tight forest complex. It is one of the largest ecological lands as its area is 132.49 ha.
