Forest resources
Sylvan habitats predominate on the areas of Żagań Forest District with domination of pine. Average forest age on the area is 48 years and average affluence exceeds 186 m3/ha.
Silviculture
Silviculture is one of the most important yet difficult parts of forest management. It includes series of nurturing treatments and regeneration based on natural processes.
Forest protection
Knowledge on processes occurring in nature and control of forest environment state allow foresters to diagnose early dangers which may negatively affect the forest. Each year they undertake actions aiming at retaining forest stability and increasing its natural resistance to destructive factors.
Forest use
Usage of forest is taking advantage of its resources - logging, collecting fruits of the forest, plants and their parts to be used in pharmaceutical industry, acquiring pines, exploitation of mines but also considerable participation in global warming. Foresters allow society use the gifts of the forest but in a way assuring its continuity.
Forest management
Forest management by State Forests is carried out on the basis of 10-year forest organization plan drawn up for forest districts. On behalf of State forests they are implemented by specialised forest services, such as Forest Organization Office and Forest Geodesy. The plans once consulted with the public are approved by the Ministry of Environment.
Hunting
Around 60% of 618 species of vertebrates in Poland inhabit forests. Civilisation caused the immemorial balance and rules governing forest ecosystems to be weakened. It influences the animals therefore currently their number, ways of nurturing and protection from animal damage is regulated by law both Polish and European.
